Journalists compete again for the “Platinum Megawatt” – a prestigious energy industry award
TGE is opening 2nd edition of the “Platinum Megawatts” Competition for the media. It aims to recognise the media and journalists committed to educating the public on issues concerning the liberalisation of the energy industry and the functioning of the electricity, natural gas and property rights markets. The Honorary Patronage over the competition has been extended by the Minister of Energy and the President of Energy Regulatory Office. The Award Committee will be composed of the representatives of institutions and organisations which, by their policy objectives, set the directions for the changes in these markets and the competition Partners.
The media competition makes part of a broader “Platinum Megawatts” initiative organised by TGE since 2010 and addressed to the most active companies operating the exchange wholesale market for electricity. The purpose is to promote the highest standards of journalism which provides full, reliable and comprehensible information on the principles governing market functioning in the energy industry. The “Platinum Megawatts” competition for journalists is a response to the need for a broad public debate regarding the functioning and the future shape of these markets in Poland and in Europe.
As an institution of public trust, TGE drives and supports the development of the energy sector, also through such initiatives which strengthen the cooperation between the business and the media community.
“We are interested in the media regularly educating and spreading information on the competitiveness of the Polish economy, energy security, and explaining how the markets for electricity, natural gas and property rights work. We feel responsible for the shape of the these markets and for this reason, in cooperation with our Partners, we wish to promote reliable and consistent journalism which, in case of the energy sector, not only demands specialist industry knowledge but also the ability to convey it to the readers, viewers or listeners. As part of this initiative, we are also planning to launch an education programme addressed to interested journalists” – said Ireneusz Łazor, President of TGE, the Competition Organiser.
“I have gladly engaged again in the work of the Award Committee. From a regulator's perspective, reliable, clear and comprehensible information communicated both to market specialists as well as electricity and gas consumers are key for the competitiveness and transparency of the markets. Therefore I attach particular importance to all the initiatives aimed at the promotion of key issues for the development of natural gas and electricity markets in Poland” commented Maciej Bando, President of the Energy Regulatory Office who extended honorary patronage over the competition.
The “Platinum Megawatts” competition for journalists is addressed to the representatives of national, regional and industry media. The competition is open for press, radio, television and internet publications issued between 1 January and 31 December 2015 and dedicated to issues concerning the electricity, natural gas or property rights market in Poland.
