Platinum Megawatts Awarded in 3rd Edition of the Competition for the Media

•    On 20 June, Towarowa Giełda Energii announced the results of 3rd edition of the “Platinum Megawatts” Competition for the Media.
•    The Honorary Patronage over the competition has been extended by the Minister of Energy and the President of Energy Regulatory Office. The Competition Partners have been recruited from among institutions which play an instrumental role in shaping the Polish energy sector: PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. (Strategic Partner), PGNiG Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo S.A., GAZ- SYSTEM S.A. and Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A.

On 20 June, TGE recognised journalists who, through their publications, have demonstrated consistent commitment to educating the public on issues concerning the liberalisation of the energy industry as well as the functioning of the electricity, natural gas and property rights markets.

“Building the public awareness and explaining the complexities of the processes taking place in the energy sector in a clear and simple language are key for the consistent implementation of the national energy policy. Therefore, the Ministry of Energy supports such initiatives as the Platinum Megawatts competition addressed to the media, which contributes to the education of the large community of energy consumers” – said Edward Słoma, Chair of the Competition Jury, Deputy Director of the Power Sector Department in the Ministry of Energy.

Among the journalists who have been awarded “Platinum Megawatts” there are:

•    Justyna Piszczatowska from the editorial team of WysokieNapiecie.pl, who received the title of the Journalist of the Year 2016 as well as a Honourable Mention for the best publication on the electricity market in the Year 2016,
•    A Honourable Mention for the best publication on the natural gas market in the year 2016 went to Wojciech Jakóbik from BiznesAlert.pl
•    The winner of a Honourable Mention for the best publication on the property rights market in the year 2016 was Małgorzata Dragan from the Polish Press Agency.

“GAZ-SYSTEM together with the Jury and Partners of the “Platinum Megawatts” Competition pursue a common strategy. It is aimed at building new growth prospects for the Polish energy market. No real change can be achieved without objective and reliable journalists who advance superior professional standards and substantive debate” – said Artur Zawartko, Vice-President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.

The Jury composed of the representatives of Honorary Patrons and Partners of the Competition carefully reviewed 37 publications looking into, among other things, their informative value, substantive correctness, form and clarity of presentation, or critical and educational value.

“Market education, particularly in such a difficult sector as energy industry, should be a priority for its participants. We are glad that together with our Partners we have the opportunity to promote professional journalism. The level of knowledge and understanding of the developments taking place on the market depends largely on the media. Nobody but journalists are an everyday source of information we analyse and rely on in hour daily work. We congratulate the winners and everybody who participated in the Competition” – said Dr Paweł Ostrowski, President of the Management Board of TGE.

The Competition makes part of the “Platinum Megawatts” initiative which has been organised by TGE since 2010. The awards are regularly granted to the most active companies and brokers operating on the exchange-based wholesale market for electricity, natural gas and property rights. In 2014, the organiser broadened the initiative to include a competition for the media aimed at promoting s public debate and spreading knowledge concerning the power and gas industry as well as energy efficiency.

TGE announces 3rd edition of the “Platinum Megawatts” Competition for the media

•    The third edition of “Platinum Megawatts” Competition for the media takes off on 20 March. The competition is addressed to journalists concerned with the questions of competition on the electricity, natural gas and property rights markets.
•    The Honorary Patronage over the competition has been extended by the Minister of Energy and the President of the Energy Regulatory Office. The Competition Partners have been recruited from among institutions which play an instrumental role in shaping the Polish energy sector: PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. (Stratetic Partner), PGNiG Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo S.A., GAZ-SYSTEM and Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A.

The objective of the competition initiated in 2014 by Towarowa Giełda Energii is to give credit to those journalists who have been consistently educating the public on questions related to the liberalisation of the energy sector. In the third edition of the Platinum Megawatts competition, awards will be granted to journalists in the following categories:

•    Journalist of the Year 2016,
•    Honourable Mention for the best publication on the electricity market in the year 2016,
•    Honourable Mention for the best publication on the gas market in the year 2016,
•    Honourable Mention for the best publication on the property rights market in the year 2016.

The Energy Regulatory Office did not hesitate, from the very beginning, to extend its Honorary Patronage to the “Platinum Megawatts” initiative conceived by Towarowa Giełda Energii. The competition crowns the whole year of regular work while providing an opportunity for a systematic and comprehensive perspective on the electricity and media market.  As such, it is an invaluable tool in the daily operation of the energy sector, as the relationship between the sector and the media shapes the image of the industry among the general public. I trust that the third edition will be a commendable continuation of the previous ones – said Maciej Bando, President of the Energy Regulatory Office.

Participation conditions

The competition is intended for the representatives of national, regional and industry media who submit their press, radio, television or internet publications issued between 1 January and 31 December 2016, and concerning issues concerning the electricity, natural gas or property rights market in Poland.

The competition winners will be selected by the Award Committee composed of the representatives of the Honorary Patrons and Partners of the competition. The received materials will be evaluated by experts according to such criteria as their informative value, accuracy, form, clarity, quality of journalism and educational value.

“As the largest power market player and one of the major Polish companies we are aware of the media's role in explaining the public the complex processes taking place in the energy sector which operates in a dynamically changing market and regulatory environment. The challenges ahead of the energy industry as regards the diversification of the energy mix, emissions, regional competitiveness and flexibility of the grid call for a meaningful and creative public debate, which is inconceivable without a major role to be played by the media. In appreciation of professional journalism, I convey my best wishes to the participants of the competition hoping that their daily work also brings them a lot of joy and satisfaction” – said Henryk Baranowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

The registration of the participants will start on 20 March 2017 and end on 20 April 2017. Nominations can be submitted by: journalists - publication authors, editorial committees of newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations and editorial staff of professional internet media employing professional journalists, as well as the Members of the Award Committee and TGE Members.

Journalists compete again for the “Platinum Megawatt” – a prestigious energy industry award


TGE is opening 2nd edition of the “Platinum Megawatts” Competition for the media. It aims to recognise the media and journalists committed to educating the public on issues concerning the liberalisation of the energy industry and the functioning of the electricity, natural gas and property rights markets. The Honorary Patronage over the competition has been extended by the Minister of Energy and the President of Energy Regulatory Office. The Award Committee will be composed of the representatives of institutions and organisations which, by their policy objectives, set the directions for the changes in these markets and the competition Partners.


The media competition makes part of a broader “Platinum Megawatts” initiative organised by TGE since 2010 and addressed to the most active companies operating the exchange wholesale market for electricity. The purpose is to promote the highest standards of journalism which provides full, reliable and comprehensible information on the principles governing market functioning in the energy industry. The “Platinum Megawatts” competition for journalists is a response to the need for a broad public debate regarding the functioning and the future shape of these markets in Poland and in Europe.


As an institution of public trust, TGE drives and supports the development of the energy sector, also through such initiatives which strengthen the cooperation between the business and the media community.

The “Platinum Megawatts” competition for journalists is addressed to the representatives of national, regional and industry media. The competition is open for press, radio, television and internet publications issued between 1 January and 31 December 2015 and dedicated to issues concerning the electricity, natural gas  or property rights market in Poland.

The Award Committee will be composed of the representatives of institutions and project partners who play an instrumental role in shaping the Polish energy sector, including the Ministry of Energy, Polish Financial Supervision Authority, Energy Regulatory Office, Gaz-System S.A. and Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A. The competition partners are: PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. - Strategic Partner, PGNiG Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo S.A., Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A., Credit Information Bureau (BIK).


The received materials will be evaluated by the Award Committee according to such criteria as their informative value, accuracy, form, clarity, quality of journalism and educational value. Awards in the following categories will be presented:

•    Main Award – Platinum Megawatt – for the Journalist of the Year 2015
•    Honourable Mention for the best publication on the electricity market in the year 2015
•    Honourable Mention for the best publication on the gas market in the year 2015
•    Honourable Mention for the best publication on the property rights market in the year 2015.
