SDAC decoupling training session with market participants successfully conducted on 11 May 2023.
The objective of the training sessions was to give market participants the opportunity to validate that they are properly prepared to handle a day-ahead complete market decoupling (Full-decoupling) incident in real operations and real-life conditions (including fallback regional solutions and regional post-coupling processes).
Since the go-live of Multi Regional Coupling (MRC, jointly with 4M MC forming SDAC) in 2014, more than 3,300 successful market coupling sessions have been conducted. In the last 4 years, four incidents have happened that led to a partial coupling of the SDAC Market.
The latest training session was conducted on the 11th May and overall received positive feedback from market participants. All parties involved in the training – including market participants, Transmission System Operators (TSOs), Nominated Electricity Market Operators (NEMOs), Central Clearing Parties and Shadow Auction entities (JAO) – concluded this to be a very effective way to secure that all parties know what to do in case of a decoupling incident.

About MCSC
In January 2022, a new joint governance structure was implemented in order to achieve a better cooperation between NEMOs and TSOs in the SIDC and SDAC projects. All NEMOs and TSOs have been working intensely over recent years to achieve a truly integrated European electricity market. By integrating the decision making for both the day-ahead and intraday timeframe, the new structure will ensure further coordination, foster efficiency, and create a faster decision-making mechanism. Therefore, SDAC and SIDC have been merged into a single Market Coupling Steering Committee (MCSC) that includes representative of all parties involved.
