Summary of trading activity on TGE markets in May 2017
• Electricity and gas volumes traded on TGE in May were lower than one year ago – by 12.9 per cent for electricity (with volume falling to 8,769,617 MWh), and by 22.4 per cent for gas (6,913,886 MWh).
• Monthly volume of trade in property rights for electricity in May amounted to 8,130,238 MWh (YoY growth by 31.8 per cent).
• The volume for property rights related to energy efficiency i.e. so-called white certificates reached 39,252, which represents over thirty-one-times growth year-on-year.
Natural gas
The volume of transactions concluded on natural gas markets in May totalled 6,913,886 MWh, which translates to a YoY decrease by 22.4 per cent. This slump was mostly due to lower volume traded on the Commodity Forward Instruments Market with Physical Delivery (CFIM), which totalled 5,083,632 MWh. On the Day-Ahead and Intraday Market (DAM&IDMg) the volume reached 1,830,254, i.e. was 45.8 per cent higher than in May of last year. The spot market volume was constituted by 1,406,160 MWh traded on DAMg (increase by 53.2 per cent YoY) and 424,094 MWh on IDMg (increase by 26.0 per cent YoY).
The weighted average price on DAM&IDMg in May fell to 74.35 PLN/MWh, which means that it was lower by 2.90 PLN/MWh than in April. On CFIM, the weighted average price of a contract with delivery in 2018 (GAS_BASE_Y-18) was 77.86 PLN/MWh, i.e. 2.51 PLN/MWh below the quotations of this contract in April.
Electricity
In May, the volume of electricity trade at TGE totalled 8,769,617 MWh, and was lower by 12.9 per cent than in May 2016. On the sport market, the volume dropped on a year-on-year basis by 10.3 per cent (to 2,100,719 MWh) and on CFIM by 13.7 per cent (6,668,898 MWh).
In May, the weighted average price of the BASE contract on the Day Ahead Market was 154.15 PLN/MWh going up by 14.86 PLN/MWh above the previous month's level. On the CFIM, the price of the contract with base load delivery in 2018 (BASE_Y-18) averaged 163.19 PLN/MWh, which means an increase by 1.19 PLN/MWh comparing to the quotations of this contract in April.
Property Rights
The volume of electricity property rights traded in May totalled 8,130,238 MWh. This means an increase by 31.8 per cent comparing to the result for May of last year.
The volume of trade in green certificates alone (PMOZE and PMOZE_A instruments on the Property Rights Market and instruments traded on the CFIM) amounted to 3,643,255 MWh exceeding the May 2016 level by 70.6 per cent. The weighted average price for the PMOZE_A instrument traded during the PRM sessions was 33.07 PLN/MWh, i.e. was higher by 6.30 PLN/MWh than in April.
The volume for property rights related to energy efficiency totalled 39,252 toe (of which nearly 38,443 toe for the PMEF instrument). This represents an over thirty-one-times YoY growth. The weighted average price achieved in market sessions for the PMEF instrument dropped by 44.52 PLN/toe MoM, to the level of 905.89 PLN/toe, while the first transactions for the PMEF-2017 instrument, with the volume of 809 toe, were concluded at the weighted average price of 855.05 PLN/toe.
Guarantees of Origin Register
In May 2017, the volume of transactions concluded in the Guarantees of Origin Register totalled 79,763 MWh, with a weighted average price of 1.02 PLN/MWh.
New participants
At the end of May, 70 companies enjoyed the status of the member of the Commodity Market (CM).
As at 31 May 2017, the Certificate of Origin Register maintained by Towarowa Giełda Energii had 3212 members with 57 of them joining in the month of May.
The Guarantees of Origin Register of Origin currently has 304 members.
