Another month of increase in trading with exchange commodities

•    The trade volume for natural gas in October amounted to 15,719,499 MWh and was by 78.6 per cent higher than in October 2016.
•    The trade volume for electricity in October increased yoy by 9.9 per cent and amounted to 13,170,702 MWh.
•    The total trade volume for property rights for electricity amounted to 3,575,796 MWh in October 2017. It means an increase by 30.1 per cent in comparison to October 2016.

Natural gas

The volume of transactions concluded on natural gas markets in October totalled 15,131,007 MWh, which translates to a yoy growth by 78.6 per cent. On the Commodity Forward Instruments Market (CFIM), the trade volume reached 13,918,534 MWh of gas, which represents a yoy growth by 115.9 per cent. The volume on the Day-Ahead and Intraday Market (DAM&IDMg) totalled 1,800,965 MWh, being by 23.5 per cent lower than in October 2016. The spot market constituted of 1,302,778 MWh traded on gas Day-Ahead Market (decrease by 31.4 per cent yoy) and 498,187 MWh on gas Intraday Market (increase by 9.7 per cent yoy).

The weighted average price on DAM&IDMg in October increased to 80.92 PLN/MWh in comparison to September 2017. At the commodities forward market, the average contract price with delivery in 2018 (GAS_BASE_Y-18) amounted to 84.69 PLN/MWh, by 0.27 PLN/MWh more than in September.

Electricity

In October, the volume of electricity trade at TGE totalled 13,170,702 MWh, and was higher by 9.9 per cent than in October 2016. On the CFIM, there was an increase by 13.2 per cent yoy with the volume of 11,062,471 MWh. On the spot market, the volume dropped yoy by 4.7 per cent to 2,108,231 MWh.

In October, the weighted average price of the BASE contract on the Day Ahead Market was 173.77 PLN/MWh - by 1.38 PLN/MWh higher than the previous month's level. On the CFIM, the weighted average price of the contract with base load delivery in 2018 (BASE_Y-18) averaged 172.64 PLN/MWh, which means an increase by 6.11 PLN/MWh comparing to the quotations of this contract in September.

Property rights

The total trade volume for property rights for electricity amounted to 3,575,796 MWh in October 2017. It means an increase by 30.1 per cent in comparison to October 2016.

The volume of trade in green certificates (PMOZE and PMOZE_A instruments on the Property Rights Market and instruments traded on the CFIM) amounted to 2,179,686 MWh, higher by 28.9 per cent than in October 2016. The weighted average price for the PMOZE_A instrument traded during the PRM sessions was 44.10 PLN/MWh, i.e. was higher by 8.60 PLN/MWh than in September 2017.

The October volume for blue certificates reached 82,809 MWh - by 121.7 per cent higher than in October 2016. The majority - 52,871 MWh - constituted the session turnover with weighted average price increasing by 1.86 PLN/MWh MoM, to 313.44 PLN/MWh.

The volume for property rights related to energy efficiency totalled 48,012 toe (of which nearly 43,616 toe for the PMEF instrument), meaning a yoy increase by 30.7 per cent. The weighted average price during market sessions for the PMEF instrument decreased by 27.15 PLN/toe, to the level of 496.27 PLN/toe.

Guarantees of Origin Register

In October 2017, the volume of transactions concluded in the Guarantees of Origin Register totalled 53,401 MWh, with a weighted average price of 0.59 PLN/MWh.

Steam coal

The index of steam coal prices according to ARP data, loco mine, for professional and industrial energy sector PSCMI 1 at the end of September amounted to 206.17 PLN/t which means an increase by 2.69 per cent in comparison to August 2017, while the price for 1 GJ of energy increased by 1.84, to 9.39 PLN. The PSCMI2 index reflecting prices for industrial and public utility heating plants decreased by 2.86 per cent in the same period and amounts to 237.66 PLN/t. After translation into energy unit, the index decreased by 3.19 per cent, reaching the value of 10.03 PLN/GJ.

The change of the monthly indices in comparison to September 2016 was 6.67 PLN/t for PSCMI 1 (increase by 3.34 per cent) and 38.16 PLN/t or 19.13 per cent for PSCMI 2. In reference to 1 GJ, the price increased yoy by 0.48 PLN (5.39 per cent) and 1.60 PLN (18.98 per cent), as appropriate.

New participants

At the end of October 2017, 72 companies enjoyed the status of the member of the Commodity Market (CM).

As at 31 October 2017, the Certificate of Origin Register maintained by Towarowa Giełda Energii had 3,385 members with 26 of them joining in the month of October.

There are 323 entities registered as the members of the Guarantees of Origin Register.
