Electricity
The volume of electricity traded at TGE in July totalled 17,918,868 MWh and was higher by 179.9 per cent than in August 2017. On the Commodity Forward Instruments Market with Physical Delivery (CFIM), the volume grew by 251.7 per cent YoY reaching 15,853,987 MWh. On the spot market, on the other hand, the volume grew by 9.0% YoY and totalled 2,064,881 MWh.
The weighted average price of the BASE contract on the Day Ahead Market in August was 265.73 PLN/MWh going up by 30.97 PLN/MWh above its July level. On the CFIM, the price of the contract with base load delivery in 2019 (BASE_Y-19) averaged 241.44 PLN/MWh, which means an increase by 23.39 PLN/MWh comparing to the quotations of this contract in July.
Natural gas
The volume of transactions concluded on natural gas markets in August totalled 13,972 105 MWh, which translates to a YoY decrease by 19.6 per cent. The trading volume on the CFIM amounted to 13,318,965 MWh and was lower by 19.4% year on year. On the Day-Ahead and Intraday Market the (DAM&IDM), the volume totalled 653,140 MWh, i.e. was 23.2 per cent lower than in August 2017. The spot market volume was constituted by 393,456 MWh traded on DAMg (decrease by 37.3 per cent YoY) and 259,684 MWh on IDMg (increase by 16.5 per cent YoY).
The weighted average price on DAM&IDMg in July increased to 108.10 PLN/MWh, which means that it was higher by 5.13 PLN/MWh than in July 2018. On the CFIM, the weighted average price of a contract with delivery in 2019 (GAS_BASE_Y-19) was 106.43 PLN/MWh, i.e. higher by 5.75 PLN/MWh than in July.
Property Rights
The volume of electricity property rights traded in 2017 totalled 59 TWh. 4,364,050 MWh, i.e. by 20.9% more comparing to August of the previous year. The volume of trade in green certificates (PMOZE and PMOZE_A instruments on the Property Rights Market) amounted to 2,638,181, exceeding the August 2017 level by 12.0 per cent, with nearly 60 per cent of the volume being constituted by session transactions. The August volume of session transactions in green certificates on the PRM – 1,580,737 MWh – constitutes the highest value in the history of TGE and it exceeds the session volume of August last year by 47.6%, when the volume of session transactions exceeded the OTC volume for the first time.
The weighted average price for the PMOZE_A instrument traded during the PRM sessions was 125.45 PLN/MWh, i.e. was higher by 35.30 PLN/MWh than in July 2018 and was the highest value since April 2015.
The volume for property rights related to energy efficiency totalled 18,469 toe (of which 16,707 toe for the PMEF instrument), which means a decrease by 1.9 per cent year-on-year. All the transactions were made during market sessions. The weighted average price during market sessions for the PMEF instrument went up by 132.92 PLN/toe MoM, to the level of 672.16 PLN/toe.
Guarantees of Origin Register
In August 2018, the volume of transactions concluded in the Guarantees of Origin Register totalled 1,343,894 MWh (over 10-fold increase YoY), for which the weighted average price amounted to 0.51 PLN/MWh (0.09 PLN/MWh more than in July of this year).
Steam coal
The steam coal price index PSCMI 1, based on the ex-works pricing data for supplied by the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) for utility and industrial power generation sector at the end of July 2018 stood at 238.10 PLN/t, which represents a decrease by 0.55 per cent comparing to June, while the price per 1 GJ of energy went up by 1.65 per cent to 11.08 PLN/GJ. Meanwhile, the PSCMI 2 index which reflects prices for industrial and municipal CHP plants increased by 1.40 per cent in the same period reaching 301.38 PLN/t. The index value per unit of energy increased by 2.62 per cent reaching 12.53 PLN/GJ.
The change of monthly indices as compared to July 2017 was 29.71 PLN/t for PSCMI 1 (increase by 14.26 per cent) and 70.08 PLN/t for PSCMI 2 (increase by 30.30 per cent).
The price per 1 GJ increased YoY, respectively, by 1.75 PLN/GJ (18.76 per cent) and 2.70 PLN/GJ (27.47 per cent).
New participants
At the end of August, 76 companies enjoyed the status of the member of the Commodity Market (CM).
As at 31 August 2018, the Certificate of Origin Register maintained by Towarowa Giełda Energii had 3,660 members with 14 of them joining in the month of August.
Currently, there are 401 entities registered as the members of the Guarantees of Origin Register.
