Pieter Schuurs was re-elected Europex Chairman. Together with the Chairman, the Board of the organisation will include five members representing European energy exchanges. These roles will be filled by: Piotr Zawistowski, Borut Rajer, Erling Thiis, Jonas Törnquist and Artur Trindade.
TGE has been a member of Europex since 2005. Since the very beginning of cooperation, representatives of the Polish exchange have been participating in working groups concerned with energy, gas, environment, finance, integration and transparency.
“The European energy market is facing numerous challenges, so I am all the more pleased to be a member of the Europex Board to bring not only my experience but also the voice of the Polish exchange. For me, it is a great privilege, but it's also a commitment. The market integration is a fact, we must be aware where we stand, seek closer cooperation and co-create the rules for the functioning of multiple players on the common energy and gas market. Europex is the right place for this, with the right expertise and therefore I believe that in this group we will be able to shape the future of the energy sector on a European dimension” says Piotr Zawistowski, President of the Management Board of TGE.
Europex, a Brussels-based not-for-profit association, was founded in April 2002. It currently represents 27 energy exchanges and market operators across Europe and serves as their central voice towards the European institutions and many other stakeholders. Europex’s main objective is to ensure that the regulatory environment for energy policy and financial regulation actively supports the integration of exchange trading into the current and future shape of the market, leading to increased transparency and integrity of European wholesale energy markets.
Christian Baer, Secretary General of Europex, added “It has been fantastic working with the current leadership team, and I look forward to continuing this good cooperation under the new setting. The energy sector is currently undergoing a significant transformation and the next decade will see many technical and regulatory changes, including to energy market and related regulation. Energy markets will be a key enabler of the energy transition – and Europex has an important mission in explaining why well-functioning markets are by far the best way forward to deliver decarbonisation in a cost-efficient and innovation-driven manner”.
