On 6 May 2020, another edition of the Platinum Megawatts Competition for media begins. For the sixth time, TGE will award prizes to journalists whose last year’s publications addressed topics related to the electricity, gas and renewable energy market.
The honorary patronage over the 6th edition of the Competition has been assumed by: the Minister of State Assets, the Minister of Climate and President of the Energy Regulatory Office.
The Competition partners are: TAURON Polska Energia S.A. (Strategic Partner), GAZ-SYSTEM S.A., Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A., PKN Orlen S.A., IRGiT S.A. and TRMEW Obrót S.A.
In the previous five editions of the Competition 207 publications and 15 journalists who deal with energy market issues on a daily basis were recognized with the awards. From year to year, the event attracts increasing interest among the media, which is confirmed not only by the growing number of applications, but also by the respectable circle of Partners who have supported the Competition since its inception.
‘The President of the Energy Regulatory Office is an honorary patron of the competition organized by TGE since its first edition. The initiative aims to recognize those without whom the ERO’s education and information policy would not be possible. The competition rewards the professionalism and competence of journalists who are able to present the complexities of the energy sector to a wider audience in an interesting way. Thereby they not only provide reliable information, but also educate the public on the functioning of the electricity and gas markets’ said Rafał Gawin, President of the Energy Regulatory Office.
The Competition was initiated by TGE in 2014 and is addressed to journalists from national, regional and industry media. Its main objective is to promote the highest standards of objective journalism adhering to ethical principles, and to spread knowledge in the area of power and gas industry and renewable energy sources. As a complementary element, the Competition features educational workshops for the media organized by TGE and the Partners of the event, during which key topics concerning the energy market in general are discussed.
‘It's been 6 years since the first edition of the Platinum Megawatts Competition was launched. During this time, new phenomena have emerged on the market, and now we are in the middle of changes we were not prepared for, which have a huge impact on our lives. The world around us has changed as have the ways and channels of communicating content. The role of journalists, who remain a key source of information, has not changed. Thanks to them, the complex issues related to the energy market started to be discussed more extensively, not only in the industry media. I am glad that together with the Competition Partners, we will once again be able to appreciate journalistic excellence’ said Piotr Zawistowski, President of TGE.
In this year’s 6th edition of the Competition, awards will be presented in the following categories:
Main Award for the Journalist of the Year 2019.
Honourable Mention for the best publication on the electricity market in the year 2019.
Honourable Mention for the best publication on the gas market in the year 2019.
Honourable Mention for the best publication on the renewable energy sources market in the year 2019.
