The agreement aims to accelerate efforts to develop the market and the widespread use of biogas and biomethane in the economy, as well as to maximise the so-called local content, i.e. to strengthen the position of domestic entrepreneurs in the supply chain. Thursday ceremony was the culmination of a process initiated on 13 October 2020, when, on the initiative of the Government Plenipotentiary for Renewable Energy, the Letter of Intent to establish a partnership for the biogas and biomethane sector, and to conclude a sectoral agreement was signed.
On the part of the government, the parties to the Cooperation Agreement for the Development of the Biogas and Biomethane Sector include: Minister of Climate and Environment, Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Climate and Environment, Government Plenipotentiary for Renewable Energy, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education and Science, Government Plenipotentiary for the Reform of the Functioning of Research Institutes. TGE also signed the document as one of the entities interested in the development of this sector. During the ceremony, TGE was represented by Piotr Listwoń, Vice-President of the Management Board for Operations, and Adam Młodkowski, Vice-President of the Management Board for Finance.
“We recognise the need to implement further solutions to support energy transition. This was reflected, for example, in the cooperation agreement signed by TGE and PGNiG on 12 January this year, which aims to use their joint experience and capabilities to create a domestic biomethane market. As you can see, we do not intend to be merely enthusiastic observers. As an Exchange, we have the experience and full technical infrastructure to offer comprehensive instruments for setting up the trading of this green fuel” assured Piotr Listwoń.
“By acceding to the sectoral agreement as a party, we want to draw attention to the fact that, in view of the systemic changes taking place in Poland and across Europe, the cooperation of various stakeholder groups and entities, such as legislators, operators and financial institutions, is absolutely crucial. The exchanges themselves also play an instrumental role. Just as for power or natural gas, the necessary infrastructure and trading conditions must be created for alternative, zero-emission fuels. And this takes time and adequate regulation. TGE is ready for this and we are glad that as one of the signatories of the document we can contribute to the creation of a new market segment” added Adam Młodkowski.
The Cooperation Agreement for the Development of the Biogas and Biomethane Sector is another document, next to the Sectoral Agreement for the Development of the Hydrogen Economy in Poland signed on 14 October this year, which will drive the implementation of the objectives of energy and climate policy of the European Union and is part of the national strategy for the implementation of solutions aimed at developing the sector of green energy sources, strengthening the Polish economy and its competitiveness.
