Major increase of the volume of trade in property rights to energy efficiency comparing to the previous year
• On the Commodity Forward Instruments Market, the volume of trade in electricity in February reached 7,072,569 MWh, which represents a growth by 71.4 per cent comparing to February in the previous year.
• On the Day-Ahead and Intraday Market the volume totalled 4,177,837 MWh, i.e. was 67.6 per cent higher than in February 2017.
• The volume for property rights related to energy efficiency reached 62,418 toe, which represents a growth by 81.7 per cent year-on-year.
Electricity
In February, the volume of electricity trade at TGE totalled 9,200,122 MWh, and was higher by 47.1 per cent than in February 2017. On the CFIM, the volume grew by 71.4 per cent YoY reaching 7,072,569 MWh. Meanwhile, on the spot market, the volume was higher by 244 MWh than one year ago, reaching 2,127,553 MWh.
In February, the weighted average price of the BASE contract on the Day Ahead Market was 195.39 PLN/MWh going up by 31.44 PLN/MWh above its January level. On the CFIM, the price of the contract with base load delivery in 2019 (BASE_Y-19) averaged 177.78 PLN/MWh, which means a drop by 1.70 PLN/MWh comparing to the quotations of this contract in January.
Natural gas
The volume of transactions concluded on natural gas markets in February totalled 9,381,768 MWh, which translates to a YoY decrease by 7.7 per cent. On the Commodity Forward Instruments Market with Physical Delivery (CFIM), the volume was 5,203,931 MWh of gas, going down by 32.1 per cent. On the Day-Ahead and Intraday Market the (DAM&IDM) volume totalled 4,177,837 MWh, i.e. was 67.6 per cent higher than in February 2017. The spot market volume was constituted by 3,440,448 MWh traded on DAMg (increase by 61.5 per cent YoY) and 737,389 MWh on IDMg (increase by 103.6 per cent YoY).
The weighted-average price on the DAM&IDM went up in February to 102.58 PLN/MWh, i.e. by 17.27 PLN/MWh against January 2018. On the CFIM, the weighted average price of a contract with delivery in 2019 (GAS_BASE_Y-19) was 81.16 PLN/MWh, i.e. 3.90 PLN/MWh below the January level.
Property Rights
The volume of electricity property rights traded in February totalled 3,478,850 MWh. This means a decrease by 25.3 per cent comparing to the result for February of last year.
The volume of trade in green certificates (PMOZE and PMOZE_A instruments on the Property Rights Market) amounted to 1,973,059 MWh, exceeding the February 2017 level by 24.3 per cent. The weighted average price for the PMOZE_A instrument traded during the PRM sessions was 61.96 PLN/MWh, i.e. was higher by 12.91 PLN/MWh than in January 2018.
The volume for property rights related to energy efficiency totalled 62,418 toe (of which 58,880 toe for the PMEF instrument), which means an increase by 81.7 per cent year-on-year. The weighted average price during market sessions for the PMEF instrument went up by 275.47 PLN/toe MoM, to the level of 833.50 PLN/toe.
Guarantees of Origin Register
In February 2018, the volume of transactions concluded in the Guarantees of Origin Register totalled 319,413 MWh, with a weighted average price of 0.54 PLN/MWh.
Steam coal
The steam coal price index PSCMI 1, based on the ex-works pricing data for supplied by the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) for utility and industrial power generation sector at the end of January 2018 stood at 226.76 PLN/t, which represents an increase by 6.63 per cent comparing to December 2017, while the price per 1 GJ of electric power went up by 7.99 per cent to 10.41 PLN/GJ. Meanwhile, the PSCMI 2 index which reflects prices for industrial and municipal CHP plants increased by 5.56 per cent in the same period and was 289.04 PLN/t. The index value per unit of energy increased by 6.45 per cent reaching 12.04 PLN/GJ.
The change of monthly indices as compared to January 2017 was 28.38 PLN/t for PSCMI 1 (increase by 14.31 per cent) and 68.86 PLN/t for PSCMI 2 (increase by 31.27 per cent). The price per 1 GJ increased YoY, respectively, by 1.49 PLN/GJ (16.70 per cent) and 2.71 PLN/GJ (29.05 per cent).
New participants
At the end of February 2018, 72 companies enjoyed the status of the member of the Commodity Market (CM).
As at 28 February 2018, the Certificate of Origin Register maintained by Towarowa Giełda Energii had 3,496 members with 30 of them joining in the month of February.
There are 340 entities registered as the members of the Guarantees of Origin Register.
